Ty Mawr Wybrnant

Ty Mawr Wybrnant was the birthplace of Bishop William Morgan (1545-1604), the first translator of the entire Bible into Welsh. The house has been restored to its probable 16th-17th century appearance.

Ganwyd yr Esgob William Morgan (1545-1604), a gyfieithodd y Beibl i'r Gymraeg, yn Nhy Mawr Wybrnant. Mae'r ty wedi ei atgyweirio i'r ffordd a fyddai (mwy na thebyg) wedi edrych yn y 16fed-17fed ganrif.

Notes  Nodiadau

The house is situated in the beautiful and secluded Wybrnant valley, and includes a display of Welsh Bibles including William Morgan's Bible of 1588. There is also an informal collection of Bibles in many other languages donated by visitors to the house from around the World. This small house gives you a real feel for what life would have been like in the 16th/17th century.

The house is owned by the National Trust.

ROAD APPROACH FROM PENMACHNO. If you look at your map it is tempting to approach from the minor road to the north - DO NOT DO THIS as it is a single track road (without passing places), and there are many gates to open and close! Take B4406 from A5 to east of Betws-y-Coed. In Penmachno, turn right after bridge in centre of village and follow signs for Ty Mawr.
